- Does Advanced Event Viewer require agents to retrieve events from systems?
Advanced Event Viewer is completely agent less (easy and
effortless installation).
The application is fully
multithreaded ensuring quick retrieval of events from remote systems.
- Does Advanced Event Viewer require a database server?
Advanced Event Viewer includes an internal database (SQLite) that requires no manual
maintenance or setup. Everything is automated.
Advanced Event Viewer 2 also supports all versions of Microsoft SQL Server
and SQL Server Express for increased scalability.
- What ports do I need to open when I'm using the Windows Firewall on my servers?
If your Windows Servers are using the build in Windows Firewall, please ensure “Remote Administration” (Windows 2008) or “Remote Event Log Management” (Windows 2008 R2) is enabled in the Firewall Exceptions list.
- Does Advanced Event Viewer work in a multi domain environment?
Yes, Advanced Event Viewer includes an Alternate Credentials manager, allowing you to enter the credentials for other domains.
- What is new in Advanced Event Viewer 2?
Advanced Event Viewer 2 includes all features from version 1 and the following new features;
- Greatly improved performance when retrieving events;
- Includes support for all versions of Microsoft SQL Server and SQL Server Express (scalability);
For small to medium deployments, Advanced Event Viewer also supports
a build-in high performance SQLite database; - A Folder Tree Size Scanner to analyze disk usage on any server;
- A 'Server and Credential Manager', to more easily add servers from other domains;
- Folders in a server list, for easy grouping of servers;
- A connection analyzer to detect remote management connectivity to your servers;
- Advanced reporting (output to file and SMTP, in HTML, PDF, TXT and CSV format);
- Clearing of event logs (optional), after events are downloaded to Advanced Event Viewer;

- How do I upgrade to the latest version of Advanced Event Viewer?

- Is it possible to configure Advanced Event Viewer to automatically retrieve events from my servers?
Yes, Advanced Event Viewer includes two methods. The first and most used method is the Automatic Retrieval option. This will instruct Advanced Event Viewer to automatically retrieve events while you are using the program. See the screenshot below. The second method is to instruct Advanced Event Viewer to schedule the job. Open the Preferences dialog to configure.
- How do I quickly add my own machine to Advanced Event Viewer?
Click on the Add Server icon in the menu bar and enter "." in the Server Name text box, then click the Add Server button
- How do I run a custom task in Response to a Given Event?

- Does Advanced Event Viewer include logging for troubleshooting purposes?
Advanced Event Viewer includes an application log. To open the log, go to the menu "View", and select "View Application Log".
- Advanced Event Viewer filter options and wildcards
Advanced Event Viewer allows the usage of wildcards for all filter fields. You can for example enter "Microsoft*" in the Event Source field to filter out any fields starting with the string "Microsoft".
